We recently talked about how to pick a charity for clients. One suggestion was to review their status with the IRS. Right on queue the IRS has released a new website to help you out. The site allows users to find an exempt organization and check its federal tax status and filings. The site includes:
- Whether the organization is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations.
- If their tax-exempt status has been revoked
- If they have filed their annual form 990-N
The one thing left to improve is the speed of the data. It is currently only updated monthly.
